Cairo-December 2, 2021: The Egyptian Power Transmission Company revealed that during the 2020-2021 fiscal year, it will invest about 7.7 billion euros to improve grid performance and maintain the quality of power supply. The total amount of energy sold during the year is About 189 billion kilowatt hours.

Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker emphasized in a statement on Thursday that the department’s success is due to the strong and effective support of the political leadership in overcoming the challenges it faces. This helps stabilize the national grid and bridge the gap between electricity production and demand.

Shaker mentioned the various efforts made by the power sector to support the transmission network; according to international standards, by adopting the system of economic operation of production stations, quality policies, and optimal use of resources, the efficiency of the network is improved and losses are reduced, so that sustainable power can be integrated. Transmit from all production sources to all customers and assets, and protect the environment.

Regarding Sabah Mohamed Mashali, Chairman of the Board of Egyptian Power Transmission Company, she explained that the power sector has successfully strengthened and developed the power transmission and distribution network to absorb and benefit from new and renewable energy sources.

Masali said that multiple projects in the field of overhead lines and substations have implemented high voltage and high voltage at the republic level. The length of high-voltage lines and cables has increased from 29,469 kilometers to 3,184 kilometers, and the capacity of high-voltage substations has increased from 95,315 MVA to 112,208 MVA, an increase of 17.7%.

She added that the 8 new high-voltage substations have increased their capacity from 62,534 MVA to 6516,3 MVA. The length of FA high-voltage lines and cables has also increased from 22,486 kilometers to 22,770 kilometers. In addition to increasing the line length and substation capacity, the remaining efforts, whether for new projects or expansion of existing ones.

In addition, 17 new high-voltage stations have been added, including 7,500 kV high-voltage stations. This increased the total capacity by 17.7%, and the projects of the three giant production stations (Bani Suef, Burullus, the new administrative capital) were connected to 220 and 500 kV.

She explained that the Egyptian Power Transmission Company has conducted an international tender and, with the help of international and local advisory groups, has selected the best quotation submitted by investors to realize that the installed capacity of renewable energy accounts for 20% of the total installed capacity. By 2022, it will exceed 42% of the total power generation by 2035.

She said that a number of energy purchase agreements have been signed for energy produced by renewable energy power plants (wind energy project duration is 20 years, solar energy project duration is 25 years), with a total capacity of 3,665 MW.

She said that some solar and wind energy project negotiations are in progress, and the contract is currently being completed. The total installed capacity is about 2,350 MW, of which wind energy is about 1,800 MW and about 550 MW. From solar energy.

She pointed out that through the completion of the contract for the project under negotiation, the total existing renewable energy capacity that is being finalized is approximately 9,973 MW, accounting for approximately 31.3% of the maximum load in 2020/2021, or approximately 31,900 MW.

The person in charge of the company pointed out that a new state control is being established in the administrative capital. In December 2020, a contract was signed with the alliance of Siemens Germany, Siemens Egypt and Hassan Alam at a total cost of approximately 850 million pounds and 24 hours from the date of the contract. Months of execution.

Masali emphasized that the Egyptian Power Transmission Company is keen to support and develop a unified national grid. By supporting existing regional interconnection projects between Jordan, Libya and Sudan and planned interconnection projects, Egypt will become a regional center for energy exchange between countries. . With Saudi Arabia, Cyprus and the Interconnection Authority Gulf, Cyprus and Greece.
