Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has begun construction of a 1×7.5MVA, 33/11KV injection substation and related 33KV/11KV and LT lines, and has installed four 500KVA distribution substation transformers in Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

It said that when the project is completed, it will increase the state's electricity demand by 15 megawatts.

At the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, Engr IfeOluwa Oyedele, Executive Director of the Network Department of Niger Delta Power Holdings Company (NDPHC), stated that the company has completed five injection substations in Ekiti State since its establishment.

He said that the completion of the project will improve the social and economic well-being of the people in the beneficiary communities.

According to him, the country's electricity demand is about 250MW, so an increase of 10 to 15MW will provide a considerable amount of loans.

"When you strengthen this, it will reduce the load currently being carried by other substations. The entire community and surrounding areas will benefit from it.

"Under the intervention of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, our NDPHC established a tripartite ad hoc committee composed of representatives of NDPHC, BEDC and Ekiti State in accordance with our mission to improve Nigeria’s power infrastructure to evaluate the improvement of Ekiti State. The way of power supply.

"The project we announced today is part of 10Nos, which may please you. The NDPHC intervention project proposed in Ekiti State.

"In determining the scope of this project, we worked with BEDC, and we were assured that NDPHC's intervention in improving the power infrastructure of the community will be consistent with their proposed community and statewide infrastructure upgrades," he said.

Oyedele also revealed that the company has built and commissioned more than 350 injection substations nationwide, with a total capacity of approximately 3540 MW.

In addition, he said that since the company was founded in 2004, a total of 18 substations have been built, and more than 10 projects have been 99% completed.

During the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, pointed out that the state’s power supply was seriously inadequate, and said that the completion of the substation will make up for the state’s supply gap.
