Tommy brings us a video featuring the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid that showcases its ability to provide a lot of power, performing the job of a serious generator. He goes as far as demonstrating actual generators, before using the Ford hybrid to power a variety of things – including cars. So far, the F-150’s hybrid system has proven remarkably utilitarian on its own. The fact that it is part of a luxury-filled 4X4 pickup truck is a plus. It would be a brilliant platform for zooming over to stranded EV owners who need a power-up.

The irony of using a gas generator (or pickup truck) to power up an EV is not lost on us. It’s kind of a reality check as the future will see a massive increase of EVs, beginning in a few years. The point here is, if the power grid does collapse, one of these hybrid pickup trucks can do a remarkable job giving you power, as long as it has gasoline. According to Ford, you can either drive up to 700 miles or use the generator at maximum output for up to 32-hours.

The truck uses a modified 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 combined with a 35-kilowatt electric motor. This combo makes 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes standard. The Pro Power onboard generator system uses a 1.5-kWh battery as a type of buffer and provides power for export. The Ford Hybrid pickup comes standard with a 2.4-kilowatt system. It can be upgraded to 7.2-kilowatts.

In this video, Tommy shows us a series of examples of what you can run using this hybrid pickup truck. He also shows us how much gas it takes to make this magic happen. Honestly, its capability is impressive, something that could power everything from a campsite, worksite, blacked-out home – or an EV.
