MONROE, Wis. — Hunger is a growing issue in Wisconsin, especially as families deal with higher costs for gas and groceries.

That’s why a group of Wisconsin-based businesses got together with the Hunger Task Force Wednesday to distribute a package of cheese, meat, and produce from across the state. The packs, which the Hunger Task Force dubbed “Badger Boxes,” were made available to anyone who stopped by Monroe High School.

The boxes included a variety of items, including cheese, eggs, meat, butter, sweet corn, onions, tomatoes, and other produce.

“People are struggling with the prices of fuel and the prices of food, so this is more important than ever for people to get out and get some food because it’s a struggle for everyone,” Monroe High School principal Jeriamy Jackson said.

The Chalet Cheese Co-Op was one of the many local businesses that helped provide items for the boxes and also helped with distribution on Wednesday. General manager Mike Hlubek says the co-op has an ongoing relationship with the Hunger Task Force, which wanted to put together a distribution event in Green County.

“There’s a need here, there’s a need in every county,” Hlubek said. “There’s people that we may not know it, but there’s people that have need. Sometimes, we’ve just got to make them aware that this is available so that they can get this product.”
