HOUSTON (ICIS)–US Ergon company Process Oils, Inc., will sell Cross Oil naphthenic base oils under a new offtake and marketing agreement effective on 23 August, according to a press release.

The agreement applies to Cross Oil’s Corsol, L-Series, B-Series, CrossTrans, and Ebonite oils produced in Cross’ Smackover, Arkansas, refinery.

“The Cross Oil team remains committed to our mission of manufacturing consistent and quality naphthenic oils for customers reliant on our chemistries,” said Doug Towns, senior vice president of Cross Oil.

“In addition to expanding the reach of Cross products to new customers, this agreement with Process Oils provides additional technical expertise, resources and an expanded logistics network which we believe will be of great benefit to our customers,” Towns said.

The full implementation date is 1 January 2023.

Before that date, customers must make arrangements to purchase future volumes of the above products through Process Oils, according to the release. Orders during the transition period may be submitted as in the past.

Naphthenic base oils, also called pale oils, are used in applications that demand high solvency and low-temperature properties.

Pale oils are used in metalworking fluids, greases and transformer oils and as process oils in chemical processes such as rubber compounding.

The US produces 44% of the world’s naphthenic oils, according to the ICIS Supply and Demand Database.

Major US producers include Ergon, Calumet, San Joaquin Refining and Cross Oil.
