I&M Announces $2 Million to Upgrade Marion Substation-Inside INdiana Business

MARION-Indiana Michigan Electric Power Company, headquartered in Fort Wayne, has begun to spend $2 million to upgrade an aging substation in Marion. I&M stated that the planned upgrade will reduce frequent power outages in the transmission network.

The utility company stated that some elements of the Anaconda substation, originally built in 1950, are still supported by wooden structures that require frequent maintenance.

I&M intends to eliminate the old substation and replace it with a new structure, the Wiremill substation. The company also intends to build a quarter-mile-long overhead transmission line.

The utility company stated that the project will not affect many customers when it starts implementation in about 18 months. 2023. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
